About

I recently celebrated my 29th birthday. To those older than me, this will sound ridiculous, but as I approach 30 I can’t help but reflect on the quality of my life, how I’ve chosen to spend my time, how I should spend the remainder of my time on this planet – all that fun psychology of aging type stuff. I’d wanted to start a blog for several years but always found a reason to put it off. Well, no time like the present.

I live in the SF Bay Area. I’m fortunate enough to make a decent living here. My goal has always been financial independence and retiring early – that part of the equation was easy. Attempting to arrive at that goal is the challenge.

I landed a well-paying job in 2014. For the first time in my life my savings account was starting to stack up quick and I had the fortunate problem of not knowing what the F to do with all this newfound wealth.

I liked the idea of Bay Area real estate but couldn’t afford it at the time. Buying turn-key real estate in the Midwest and absentee landlording sounded like a hell of a lot of work for a ho-hum return. General equities trading at all-time highs didn’t seem great on a risk/reward basis. I spent hundreds of hours reading MMM/Bogleheads threads, along with other early retirement type blogs.

I somehow stumbled upon the wacky world of junior mining stocks and have been playing in that space since 2016. I also bought into Bitcoin and Ethereum in early 2017. I am sector-agnostic, meaning I will entertain unfamiliar/unconventional ideas. I’m not afraid to learn a new game and try my luck if there’s juice to be had.

My goal is to hit $3,000,000 net worth before I hit 40.

This blog will serve as a repository for my thoughts and investment/speculation ideas. Nothing fancy. I’m not an expert in anything. I’m just a regular guy trying to make some money. Hopefully someone out there will find it useful.
